Ozonation O3 Treatments

Remove Odours with O3 Ozonation Treatment

Treaments start from just £30 and our Ozone treatment is covered by the efficiency warranty. If, within three days of the treatment, the unpleasant odours re-appear, the treatment will be carried out again. Of course, the next treatment will be free of charge!

So what is an O3 Ozonation treatment?

Disinfection of air through ozonation

Ozonation of air conditioning is an effective and safe way of getting rid of bacteria, mould, and unpleasant odours from air conditioning systems and car interiors.

Disinfection of air conditioning is a procedure which increases comfort and safety of the driver and passengers. System contamination resulting from daily life use causes discomfort and lowers the driver’s psychomotor functions. Simply put, travelling in a musty smelling car filled with petrol fumes or cigarette smoke is far from pleasant.

What to count on after ozonating your air conditioning?

Disinfection of air conditioning using ozonation.

Why is (the) ozonation (method) effective?

Ozone (O3) the so-called “active Oxygen) has very strong antiseptic properties. It is almost 50 times more effective than chlorine. The use of an adequately productive device ensures high (nearly 100%) rate of effectiveness in the disinfection process.

Ozone is a gas and therefore reaches virtually every nook and cranny of both the air conditioning and car interior. A correctly carried out procedure ensures the entire car is subjected to ozonation, even including the headliner.

Disposal of arduous and persistent odours with ozone does not rely on the masking, but the complete removal by oxidation of compounds, including those with an unpleasant odour.

What is car air conditioning disinfection using ozone?

Prior to ozonation, all mechanical impurities have to be removed by thorough vacuuming.

Ozonation uses an ozone generator, which produces ozone from the oxygen in the air through the use of corona discharge. The discharge causes splitting of the oxygen molecules (O2) in two separate oxygen atoms (O), which, in turn, rapidly combine with other oxygen molecules, resulting in an ozone molecule (O3). Ozone instantly releases one oxygen atom while binding to any chemical compound, oxidising it.

The technician’s job is to determine the power (intensity) and time of ozonation.

The air conditioning system and the car interior get subjected to ozonation. Ozone (active oxygen) circulates the inside the air conditioning system and inside the car, oxidising all encountered chemical molecules. Following this all small organisms such as moulds, fungi, bacteria, viruses die and are stably decomposed along with compounds which cause unpleasant odours.

The final stage of the service is airing the car.

Is disinfection of air conditioning using ozone safe for humans?

Yes. Ozonation of air conditioning takes place in a closed car. Ozone is a gas with a strong and distinctive smell which is noticeable at a very small concentration of 0.02 to 0.04 mg/m3 which is completely harmless to humans. Because of its unstable and nature and fast decaying properties, the impact it has on the body is very limited. (The truth is that ozone, in high concentration, has the same effect on the human body as on all the microbial organisms. However, in order to experience any harmful effects of ozone, the concentration levels of the gas would have to be extremely high.

Ozonation treatments are also completely safe for the technicians carrying out the service on a daily basis. This is because the allowable concentration of ozone in the workplace is 0.2 mg/ m3 and in order for the concentration levels to reach a dangerous limit it would have to reach values of above 21.4 mg/ m3

The ozonation treatment is also completely safe for people sensitive to chemicals, asthmatics and people with allergies.

How long does the effect of ozone treatment last?

Ozonation of air conditioning systems is only intended for removal of unwanted microorganisms. Since ozone gas is unstable and its half-life at about 20°C is a maximum of 3 days, that is how long the smell and active effects can persist.

It should be noted that ozone disinfection is carried out only during the procedure. After the treatment, the levels of effectiveness of ozone drop down to almost zero (only the smell remains but the concentration of the gas is too insignificant to make any difference in the level of disinfection)

Upon completion of the ozone treatment the car is left almost 100% free of live microorganisms. The process of colonization by dust mites, bacteria etc. must start all over again. It will take up to a few months before any effect of the bacteria/parasites gets noticed again.

This period can be extended by using small ozonators suitable for use in small areas that can be used consistently in order to get rid of unpleasant odours and to disinfect car interiors.

Ultrasonic disinfection can be used in order to extend the effective period of the disinfection treatment. Liquid disinfectant spray can be used on all surfaces which can slightly increase the time in which the disinfection occurs. (duration of action depends on many external factors) This is the most important difference between the two methods of disinfection of air conditioning systems.

Another important difference, this time acting in favour of the ozone treatment is the type of substance. Ozone is an environmentally clean process (ozone is biodegradable and breaks down to pure oxygen) and thus completely safe for humans. Ultrasonic cleaning uses condensed chemical agents. Despite the fact that the chemicals are safe and biodegradable, it does not compare with crystal clear ozonation.
